2 x 12 Project: July 2012

I’m rather proud of myself because this month I finally remembered to take our picture before we got to the end of the month! Actually, this month’s photo comes from a trip we took at the beginning of the month to Florida. While we were busy at a conference most of the time, we did get to drive down to Siesta Key (most beautiful beach ever) and spend part of a day there. I LOVE that beach because the sand isn’t hot on your feet!!

This month was busy, but not as crazy as last month, which makes me feel like I’m beginning to get my summers under control. :-) I feel like I didn’t spend as much time outside as I normally would in July, simply because of the crazy heat. I mean, I love 95 degree weather for swimming, but it’s definitely not so comfortable to just sit outside and read a book in. To try and avoid the hottest part of the day, I moved my walking time (yes, I go on walks for exercise now and James often joins me) to the late evening, just before sunset.

While I don’t normally love “working out” later in the day, as it tends to make it harder for me to fall asleep, it’s definitely the most GORGEOUS time of day to be outside, in my opinion. There’s something about the way the sun sets across a field in a summer evening that I just can’t get enough of! When I see beautiful evening light it instantly makes me want to be doing a photo shoot. :-)

Here’s what’s gone on in the month of July…

  • Went to Camp Allendale with James while he spoke at a kid’s camp and reminisced about going to camp in the summer when I was younger…
  • Celebrated the 4th of July on the water with family
  • Traveld to Chicago for Jesseca and Adam’s engagement session
  • Spent a week in Florida at the NACC, got to visit with family we hadn’t seen in years, and had a quick beach trip
  • Went to the Johnson Country Fair and visited all of the animals :-)
  • Kicked off the official start to the 2013 booking season for weddings; met with several awesome potential clients!
  • This weekend I’ll be shooting Meredith and Tom’s wedding!!
We learned that the trick for doing the beach right is to get there EARLY. We pretty much had it to ourselves for the first hour or so before everyone else started showing up. And it was glorious. We ate breakfast overlooking the ocean, took a long walk along the water, and just plain enjoyed ourselves. See, don’t we look relaxed? ;-)
