This past weekend we did a little family outing to Oatland Island Wildlife Center in Savannah. Jack had been asking to go to the zoo and “the farm” for a looooong while, so this was the next best thing since the closest zoo is all the way down in Jacksonville! It had been over a year since we visited the Wildlife Center, so it was fun to go back with Jack being older and super excited about seeing everything. We learned our lesson from the last time when we went in the middle of summer and roasted to death/got attacked by mosquitos!!! This trip was MUCH more enjoyable on a pleasant 70 degree day in February. :-)
The Center has an indoor area where you can view turtles, lizards, snakes, etc., and the rest of the experience centers around a trail that you walk through the woods to find the various wild animals. We were able to see a cougar, bob cat, red foxes, deer, wolves, bison, and an armadillo. They also have a variety of birds of prey (owl, hawk, bald eagle, etc.). Right in the middle of everything is a barn area with sheep, goats, a donkey, cow, pig, birds, and bunnies (I told Jack, “Look– it’s a farm!). At the pond area we were able to feed the catfish and turtles, which was fun.
Jack had an absolute BLAST running to see each exhibit and yelling, “MORE ANIMALS!!!” He just couldn’t get enough. Although I didn’t take pictures of the animals there, I did remember to bring my camera along to at least grab some shots of us as a fam hanging out and exploring!
I absolutely treasure any photos of me with the boys, mostly because I am usually always the one behind the camera and not in the images. This time I handed the camera off to James and had him grab some shots of me with the littles!
