Growing up Valentine’s Day was all about passing out cards and candy at school, reading each card to see if it was from a cute boy and picking out all of the good candy to eat (I never really cared for the candy hearts). In high school you could buy roses to send to people during class and hope that the person you liked would send you one.
All of that was fun, but I’m not so much into the cards and candy anymore. In fact, James knows that I would rather spend an evening watching TV with him and getting a back-rub then having him spend tons of money on me! Guess that makes me pretty easy to buy for… ;-)
Six years ago on Valentine’s Day we had our first “official” date. Technically speaking we had started dating a couple of days earlier, but hadn’t announced it to any of our friends yet. I had already made plans to have a nice Valentine’s Day dinner with some of my girlfriends in a restaurant in downtown Cincinnati. As our dinner came to a close the waitress came into our private dining room and told me that I needed to come outside. I had no clue what was going on, but I followed her outside the restaurant to find James waiting for me next to a horse and carriage! I was quite surprised to say the least and had a blast riding through the streets of downtown in a fancy schmancy carriage.
James obviously earned a lot of points for that one, although he did have to take a good bit of teasing from our guy friends when they found out! I think they were all just jealous they hadn’t thought of the idea themselves… I haven’t been able to find the picture of us from that night (I know it’s around here somewhere), but I did find a picture taken soon after when we went to hear the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra play…
Hope you have a Happy Valentine’s Day!!
