It’s hard for me to believe that I have a 10 month old baby already and that I’m only TWO MONTHS away from having a one year old! People tell me all the time how quickly the time passes (especially random people I run into in the grocery store) and that truly is the case. That is probably the biggest reason why I take so many photos– so I can freeze these moments in time! I take SO MANY photos and videos on my iphone on a daily basis it’s ridiculous, but I have already forgotten what those early days looked like and my photos are what I have to remember.

At 10 months Jack is crawling way too fast (as in you turn around for 5 seconds and wonder where he went), pulls up to a standing position and walks along the edges of furniture holding on, feeds himself like a beast, chases after the cats, loves to read and look through his books, makes sounds like “Da, fa, la, da” and has recently added “Ma ma ma ma ma” to the mix, much to his father’s dismay. ;-) He currently does NOT like getting dressed (he feels like he’s the only baby in the world who has to put a shirt over his head and it’s the worst), and when you take something out of his mouth that he’s not supposed to have (i.e. cat hair, a stick, candy wrapper) he will throw the cutest little fit you’ve ever seen. He also gives the best snuggles when he gets up from a nap and has the most adorable laugh!

I try to get out the “good” camera at least once a month and have a little photo shoot with Jack. That is getting harder and harder as he is getting more mobile and rowdy. I mean, have you tried getting a 10 month old to sit still lately??? It’s like, LOOK AT ME CLAPPING! LISTEN TO THIS SILLY NOISE I’M MAKING! OH LOOK, THERE’S A CAT! JACK, JACK, JACK!!! HERE, HOLD THIS BOOK AND ACT LIKE YOU’RE READING! Meanwhile, you hold your finger on the shutter button and snap away, hoping that some will turn out.

Capturing these moments with my own child throughout this past year has grown my love for family photography again, which is why I’ll be taking on a limited amount of family sessions this year in addition to my weddings! Now keep in mind, I’m not the kind of photographer you go to when you want family photos of everyone wearing their matching outfits, perfectly posed, looking directly at the camera with big smiles. Not saying that’s a bad thing, but that’s just not me. :-) While I do always make sure to grab some shots of everyone looking directly at the camera smiling, I like to capture families just how they are– playing, laughing, snuggling, etc. While most of my shoots take place outdoors, I can also do a portion of a shoot in your home, using the natural light coming in from outside (just like in the photos below). The type of portrait shoots I am best suited for are for small families, children, and toddlers. If you are looking for newborn photos, I have some great referrals for you, because that is a totally different animal in itself and requires more patience than I will ever have (I really realized this when I tried to do newborn photos with Jack)!
