Jack’s Birth

(iphone photo)

It’s crazy to me just how much our lives have changed over the past three weeks since baby Jack was born! The lack of sleep, for one, has been a HUGE change for me. James keeps saying he can’t believe how I’m surviving on so little sleep (because he of all people knows that I am not a person who generally does well with less than 8.5 hours of sleep a night). I have to say it kind of feels like I’m on an extended mission trip to a foreign country where I’m just running off of adrenaline!

The first week home was pretty much a blur. I was getting next to no sleep and was still in a lot of pain after the delivery. We were lucky to have my mom here right away (my dad came a few days later), which was a tremendous help with getting basic things done around the house. She and my dad also made sure that James and I were well fed, because Lord knows we didn’t have the energy to fix anything for ourselves!

That first week was also pretty rough for Jack. At our first doctor’s appointment we found out he had jaundice and would have to spend time in a bili lamp (kind of like a mini tanning bed) until his levels came down. He ended up having to use the lamp for two days, which meant that we had to get up early four days in a row to take him to the pediatrician (one of those days happened to be Daylight Savings Time, so you can imagine the tiredness felt there)! Poor guy had to get blood drawn at each of those visits, so he was not a happy camper (nor was his Mama). :-( We are so thankful that jaundice was the worst of things to happen at birth though, because otherwise he is a healthy, perfect little boy!

At the end of week two James went back to work. While I was initially a little nervous to be on my own, I’ve actually really enjoyed figuring out how to handle things by myself and create a “routine” of sorts for us. This week I finally got to a point where I figured out how to take a shower, get some chores done around the house, work on the computer, AND take a nap in the same day so I’m not wanting to go to bed when James comes home from work. I’ve also learned how to fix meals for myself in a record amount of time. :-)

I finally got a chance to sit down and go through photos that have been taken with the actual camera (not camera phone) over the past few weeks, so I thought I’d share a few… And yes, this kid will probably be the most photographed child of all time, so there will definitely be lots more posts in the future starring baby Jack!

And here’s a little glimpse at our phone photos…

He is just beauitful!! Love all these photos! I had to laugh at your hubby’s sleeping arrangement…the hospital does NOT give dads a good set-up! And glad to hear things are going well! Just a heads up that if your little man is super fussy and/or clingy from weeks 6-8, its totaly normal! Those were the hardest weeks for me with Dean…if you ever need a check in with a fellow new mom just text me ya hear?! ;)
