Las Vegas Desert Shoot

While James and I were at WPPI Las Vegas (a photography conference for wedding and portrait photographers) last week we had the opportunity to go on a photo shoot in the Nevada desert. The shoot was set up by Dan Fields and Stephen Knuth (awesome photographers) and we used off-camera lighting to create some gorgeous shots!

We drove out to a dry lake bed for the shoot. We were blown away by the beauty of the place…

The girls who modeled for us were amazing. If you’ve never been to the desert before, it can get quite chilly. I was literally shivering at certain points and these girls were totally working it in their dresses!

And no, this is not a fake background! The coolness of these shots comes from the off-camera lighting set-up we used. I did little to no editing on any of these because they came out so great straight out of camera.

We had a make-up artist on set to give touch-ups as needed. I love the funky eye make-up she used!

As the sun started to go down we turned the lighting set-up around and got this dramatic effect…

The shot above and the shot below were taken within minutes from each other… gives you an idea of what the off-camera lighting does!

We took turns using the lighting set-up, so while it was in use we grabbed some beautiful naturally lit shots as well.

A big thanks to Dan (photo on left) and Stephen (photo on right) for setting this shoot up! We had so much fun. :-) James is now asking for a beauty dish (off-camera lighting) for Christmas… lol.

JENNA!! These are amazing! I can’t decide which style I love better…natural or artificial light. I love that the lighting was able to give two totally different styles. If you’ll excuse me now…I’m off to buy a beauty dish ;-)
