Mission Trip to Haiti

I am excited to share with you that at the end of March James and I will be joining a team of people from our church to go on a mission trip to Haiti! We will be working with Haitian Christian Outreach to continue work on a Christian camp that is being built in the town of Peredo. The mission already has 6 churches, 5 schools, and 3 medical clinics on the island, but when the recent earthquake hit the camp was put on hold while the main focus switched to finishing the medical clinics. The camp is the first of it’s kind on the island and will be used for such things as youth camps, men’s and women’s retreats, and leadership/training events.

I think I can speak for everyone on the team by saying that we are all really looking forward to the trip, but there are plenty of things to be nervous about as well. As you may already know, Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. With the devastation from the earthquake, we don’t fully know what to expect. What I do know is that temperatures will most likely be in the high-90’s to 100 degrees and we will be doing hard labor. Having been on a couple of mission trips to Mexico, I know that I’m OK with the heat, hard work, and “simplistic” living conditions, but it still won’t be easy. We’ll also have a chance to minister and fellowship with the Haitians working at the camp and the children that hang out around the camp on a daily basis.

I am excited to be a part of this trip and see how God will use me and change me. I plan to take one camera body and one lens with me (although I am extremely nervous about it), so I will definitely be sharing pictures when we return! I would LOVE it if you would be in prayer for our team and the trip. Some of the people on our team have never been on a mission trip before, so this is most certainly going to be a life-changing experience.

Each person on the team needs to raise $1,600 in order to go on the trip. Most people have sent out fundraising letters to friends and family (we sent ours yesterday, so if you think you might be getting one check your mail today and tomorrow!), and we are also having a Spaghetti Fundraiser Dinner at our church to raise money for the trip. If you feel the desire to donate for our trip (any amount would help) you can do so here. Under “Gift Information” be sure to choose “short term trips,” and under the Comments section put “For Rocklane Christian Church trip, March 26-April 2.”

Thank you in advance for your prayers and support!

P.S.- We will be flying in to Port-au-Prince (marked with a white star and red circle). The camp is located south of Port-au-Prince in Peredo (not shown on map).
