I’m not the type of girl that likes to be showered with gifts on Valentine’s Day, or any other special day for that matter. Yes, that’s one of the tactics James used to “woo” me in college (there were just so many), but now that we’re married he knows better than to spend a lot of money on me. ;-) I know, it sounds crazy, but I’ve always been an extremely frugal person, no matter if I’ve needed to be or not. It’s just the way I am. Let’s just say I get real excited with clearance sales and a good coupon…
Now this is not to say I didn’t enjoy the hot air balloon ride, getting surprised with a horse & carriage, the fancy dresses, and expensive dinners, but now that we’re married and we’ve actually got bills to pay I am “wooed” over just as much with inexpensive (or free) gifts. James has learned this over the years and surprised me with things like a scavenger hunt, post-it notes with reasons why he loves me posted all over the house, coupons for back massages (my favorite!), and he may or may not have picked flowers from the park at one point in time (totally did not endorse that).
Whatever the case, I am thankful to have found a man of God that loves me, respects me, and supports my endeavors. That alone makes this a great Valentine’s Day for me! I hope that whether you have a significant other or not, you know that you are loved by God. There’s nobody that says “I love you” like Him!
P.S.- Seven years ago today was the first Valentine’s Day we spent together and also our first official date. :-)
(This photo was taken on one of my first trips to visit James’ family in Traverse City, MI while we were in college.)
Happy Valentine’s Day!
