In a post a couple of months ago I talked about different learning and networking resources that have been beneficial to me. One of those is attending my local PUG (Pictage User Group) on a monthly basis. For this month’s meeting we broke up into groups and had a fun little shoot-out along the canal in downtown Indy. Each group was given a list of things they were supposed to capture (i.e. someone sitting, someone standing, details, hands, etc.). When it was your turn to shoot, you had 2 minutes and had to take 5 different shots, making sure to incorporate the list we had been given. It was a fun challenge and I had a great time with my small group!
When we got together as a large group to chat, we talked about the importance of challenging yourself as a photographer by taking on personal projects. One idea that we were given (which I am wanting to try) is to take an object (or a model if you have one) and photograph it in 50 different ways. This is a great way to stretch yourself and learn to see things from different vantage points. Even if photography is just a hobby for you, I encourage you to try this!
Here are a few of the shots I took that night…
Brandy and I met at WPPI in Vegas earlier this year when we both attended a shoot in the Nevada desert. When I found out she was from Indy I invited her to PUG and have really enjoyed getting to know her!
I met Ryan for the first time when he and his fiance modeled for us at a PUG meeting a few months ago. They are getting hitched very shortly!
I’m pretty sure Vanessa makes the longest haul to our PUG meetings each month, as she lives down in Columbus, IN and we meet all the way up in Zionsville! She and her boyfriend were a lot of fun to photograph. :-)
And here a few of the shots Brandy took of me when it was my turn to model… I will say that it’s definitely a lot harder being on the other side of the camera!
