Home Project: Yard Sale Dresser

I’m no Martha Stewart, but I do like to do the occasional home project, especially if it doesn’t cost too much money. Last summer I found this dresser at a yard sale for $10 and just had to have it. I knew exactly what I wanted to do to remodel it, yet it sat in our room for a full year before I finally decided to do something about it! Geesh.

No offense, but I’m not exactly a mustard-yellow type of person when it comes to colors I want to have in my house. I knew that I wanted to repaint it, antique it, and change out the knobs to something more fun…

James and I decided to take on the project together and it became a fun date. :-) We first removed all of the drawers and knobs off of the drawers. Then we applied one coat of primer to everything.

After that we painted one coat of a dark turquoise color that I just looooove. When it dried we replaced the knobs.

I had been watching for the knobs to go on sale at Hobby Lobby for a while and finally caught them when they were 50% off! I wanted all different types, so I did a different kind for each individual drawer.

Because we live in an old farmhouse and our style (or probably more my style) has evolved into a sort of modern-French-country look (if that is even a style), I wanted the dresser to have an antique look to it. At this point I became more of the project supervisor because, let’s be honest, I loathe sanding! James did a wonderful job though. :-)

He roughed up all of edges to give it more of a worn look. I absolutely love it!

Here is the finished product!!! I can’t stop staring at it whenever I see it now. :-)

Happy Weekend!

I am so jealous of your furniture re-doing skills. I changed some knobs and thought I was the next Martha Stewart. Clearly we need to hang out more.

I l.o.v.e. this! Love that color and love the knobs. So much more satisfying than buying a dresser new for $300, right!? I have two similar projects I’ve been waiting to do (garage sale mirror!), but when I saw your teaser a week ago I knew I had to wait. Okay, I’m inspired. Nice work, guys!
